Why an All or Nothing Mindset hinders your Weight Loss goal

Why an All or Nothing Mindset hinders your Weight Loss goal

Hey there Wonder Woman,

I wanted to share with you a conversation that happens day in, day out in my business – and it always happens with women who have essentially been trying for years to get off the weight loss rollercoaster to create inside out health and happiness.

No matter how hard they try, they always feel like they’re being on-again, off-again – they’re being bad or they’re being good – and they’re constantly looking for a switch to flick in their head when they can be good and stick to their diet, and then secretly dreading or hoping for a time where they can go back to normal and be relaxed.

These conversations so often start with the sentence “I don’t want to be stick thin” or “I don’t want to be a size 8” or “I don’t want to be a skinny minny” or “I’ll never be stick thin but I just want to be happy in my body, I just want to be normal, I just want to be comfortable in my own skin.”

The only way we’ve ever been indoctrinated on how to lose weight is by forcing and pushing and fighting ourselves.

What that immediately shines a light on for me is that the only way we’ve ever been indoctrinated on how to lose weight, to be light, to be toned, to be beach body confident, is by forcing and pushing and fighting ourselves. And so, it creates this push-pull effect, this all or nothing, and looking for a switch to turn on.

So many of the ladies that come to me, they start their conversation off like that because since their youth they’ve been trying to be stick thin, trying to look good in a bikini, trying to diet themselves happy – and they’re now at this place where they’re like, “No more. I’m drawing a line on the sand. I’m not going to do it ever again.”

But this pain from this past, these past problems, past history – it actually creates a pattern going forward where you know what not to do but you don’t know what to do.

I’m seeing a generation of mothers a generation of women who don’t want to pass on the same diet mindset and diet behaviors and restrictive food patterns that their mothers have given to them – because their mothers who’ve grown up in the ‘70s or ‘80s imparted all that ridiculous Jane Fonda uppers and downers mentality and weighing themselves everyday mentality on their daughters.

And there’s a whole wave of women who don’t want to repeat that – but they don’t know what to do.

There’s a whole wave of women who don’t want to pass on the same diet mindset, behaviors and restrictive food patterns their mothers have given to them.

What they really want though is to be able to create a sustainable way to health so they can do these lifestyle practices of just wanting to easily and effortlessly crave healthy food without always falling on and off the bandwagon, and without always having to miss out on social life and having to avoid social occassions because you’re trying to be good.

And what they really want is to feel comfortable in their skin, to feel happy from the inside out, to feel congruent with the choices, with the words they say, and not have that little voice in the background going, “Yeah, but I wonder how long this is going to last.”

And you know what? Even though those conversations start off with saying “I’ll never be stick thin” or “I don’t want to be a size 10” or “I just want to be normal”, when you do unlock your body’s hormonal rebound to a happy, healthy, lean and curvy weight – your hunter-gatherer ancestor’s genetic blueprint – when you unlock that natural birthright for yourself, that is absolutely what you can be.

You don’t have to chop yourself off from feeling unworthy of having your body expressed in its highest expression of athleticism, of leanness, of toneness, of having vitality, of being rock-solid confident in who you are.

And so, a large part of my work is letting go of the barriers that say that, actually, the thing that you say you don’t want, you actually do. But you’ve told yourself along the way that you no longer have it.

The key to overcoming this is healing your past.

So the answer, the key to overcoming this, is healing your past – but going forward. And that’s what we do in our work: we help you heal your past, the meanings that have been buried deep within your subconscious mind – and we do that in the Body Confidence Blueprint.

In our free trainings, you can work out how to map this forward for yourself. But, essentially, what we help you do is create a new normal so that it’s just like turning up a volume.

It’s not this on-again off-again switch. It’s not like I’m being good and now I’m being bad. It’s not like I’m being perfect and then on the “stuff it” train and going the opposite direction. “If I can’t be a perfect in being a kale-eating gym bunny, I’m going to be perfect at being a junk food-loving couch potato.”

When you can get yourself off that on-again, off-again switch and realize that it’s just a dial of turning up your habits overtime so that you never get on the “stuff it” train and go back to normal because you’re creating a new normal all the time, a normal that allows you to gravitate towards your ideal healthy body that is your evolutionary birthright.

If you want to know more about how you can be one of our amazing case studies and how to create a rock-solid body confidence from the inside out, then definitely join us on one of our free trainings. We run that every week.

You can also apply for your own Body Breakthrough Session.

If you want to get there faster and you want to know the number one thing that’s holding you back, that’s buried in your subconscious mind, that’s holding you back from releasing the weight and allowing yourself to be expressed at that highest version of you, then you can just reach out by clicking the link below.

I look forward to seeing you on the other side.
